3. Memberships

Understanding the the types of grouping that people in your organization or collaboration form is helpful when modeling your organization. We will be talking in depth about modeling your organization within COmanage in the next lesson, though it will be helpful for you to have some specific examples in mind when we do that.

DISCUSSION: How people are linked to your organization

Hands on time!

We will move back to our breakout groups for 10 min. Discuss the people that you have modeled in the first two sessions. How are these individuals connected to the organization? What groups of people would they be connected to or lead? Things to consider:

  • Are they in different organizational units, for example, the medical school and the business school, or internal members and visiting students, etc.
  • Are they in specific departments?
  • What formal and informal groups are they in? For example, project groups, mailing lists, role groups (like department heads), collaborations (like the holiday party committee)

We’ll record our thoughts in the Etherpad.
